VIEWING CLIENT RECORDS
Before a drug court user can view client records in Clinical Management for Behavioral Health Services (CMBHS) , the treatment/service provider must enter an Authorization to Release Health Information into CMBHS.
Authorization to Release Health Information
When the drug court refers a defendant to a DSHS substance abuse or mental health treatment/service provider, the court should explain to the client that they will need to sign an Authorization to Release Health Information when they meet with the treatment/service provider for the first time.
Explain that in order for the Judge and other members of the court to monitor their participation and progress, the Court needs access to the client’s health record in the Clinical Management for Behavioral Health Services (CMBHS) system.
The treatment/service provider will not let the court see the records in CMBHS until the client gives their consent in writing. Explain to the defendant that the treatment/service provider will ask the client to sign the papers during the admission process and will explain in detail what will be released to the court.
How to Find Clients and view their CMBHS Records
Find Client and Client Profile (CLI015)
- The Find/Add New Client page is the “home page” for the drug court user.
- This page is used to locate a client in the CMBHS system.

Client Profile
Once you locate a client using the Find/Add New Client function, the drug court user may view the Client Profile and access their health record. The Client Profile provides the drug court user with basic demographic and contact information for the client. It does not include clinical information or information about the services the client is currently or has received in the past.
The Client Workspace
To view a client’s records, the drug court user must go to the client’s CMBHS Client Workspace. The Client Workspace is the “face” sheet of the client’s health record in CMBHS. Assorted diagnostic, emergency and clinical information is displayed on the Client Workspace for quick access.

Client Documents
Service providers document Assessments, Treatment Plans/Reviews, Progress Notes and other details about client participation and progress in client documents that can be accessed from the Client Workspace.
